Mahitahi Trust is a kaupapa Māori-led organisation dedicated to enhancing the well-being of individuals and whānau across health, education, employment, and housing. Grounded in Ngā Tikanga Māori, they work to improve mental wellness and life outcomes for communities across the Auckland region. Their commitment is to provide holistic, integrated services that uplift and empower whānau and whaiora on their wellness journeys.

We are seeking a Senior Executive Assistant (Pouāwhina Matua) to provide exceptional, high-level support to our Tumu Whakarae (Chief Executive Officer) and contribute to the smooth functioning of the Executive Leadership Team.

About the Role

This is a pivotal role at the heart of Mahitahi Trust. As kaitiaki of the Tumu Whakarae, you will provide trusted executive support, ensuring confidential and sensitive matters are handled with absolute professionalism, integrity, and respect. You will proactively manage a calendar, prepare briefings and correspondence, coordinate meetings, and act as a key liaison between the CEO Office, leadership team, and external partners. The position also involves supporting special projects and ensuring strategic priorities are delivered effectively.

To succeed, you’ll need to anticipate needs, manage multiple priorities, and communicate with empathy and confidence, all while upholding the mana and reputation of the Tumu Whakarae and Mahitahi Trust. You must know the Auckland region well and importantly, you’ll bring a sense of humour and balance to a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Ngā tino pūkenga me wheako | Essential knowledge, skills and experiences

  • At least five years’ experience providing executive-level support, ideally within the not-for-profit or kaupapa Māori sector.
  • Exceptional organisation and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to build and sustain trusted relationships with kaimahi, board members, and stakeholders.
  • Sound judgement, emotional intelligence, and discretion in managing sensitive information.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and social media platforms.
  • A Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Business Management (preferred).
  • A full and valid New Zealand driver’s licence, plus clear Police and Ministry of Justice vetting.
  • Understanding of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga Māori.
  • Commitment to embedding Mahitahi Trust’s eight Pou and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in daily work.
  • Willingness to work positively with strategies that improve health outcomes for Māori and contribute to a culturally inclusive workplace.
