Ngā Tāngata Tiaki o Whanganui (NTT) is the Whanganui Iwi entity with responsibilities derived from Ruruku Whakatupua the Whanganui River Claim Deed of Settlement in respect of Te Awa Tupua. Entrusted with managing and growing the iwi’s assets, resources, and investments for the wellbeing of Awa and the people - now and into the future. 

Mō te tūranga | About the Role 

We are seeking an experienced Kaiwhakahaere Pūtea - General Manager Finance to lead the financial strategy, operations, and accountability. This is a pivotal executive leadership role, responsible for ensuring the prudent stewardship of NTT’s responsibilities, supporting intergenerational aspirations, and upholding obligations. This senior leadership role combines strategic planning, compliance, investment oversight and capability building across the organisation.

As Kaiwhakahaere Pūtea, you will:

  • Lead the development and delivery of long-term financial strategies and accountabilities.
  • Provide expert financial advice to the Kaihautū, Board, and Subsidiaries.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, NZ GAAP, NZ IFRS, and PSGE trust deed obligations.
  • Oversee budgeting, reporting, audit, risk management, and commercial investment activities.
  • Build financial capability within the organisation and support transparent reporting to iwi members.

Ko tau nā i tēnei tūranga | What you’ll bring 

You ideally bring:

  • 10+ years’ financial management experience, including senior leadership (experience in iwi or PSGE highly desirable).
  • CA/CPA (or equivalent) with tertiary qualification in accounting, finance or related field.
  • High competency in Xero and financial reporting systems.
  • Strong knowledge of NZ financial legislation, governance, and investment management.
  • The ability to engage confidently with iwi members, Board its subsidiaries, and external partners.
  • Strong technical skills in budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, audit and risk management.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with cultural intelligence and the ability to work across iwi, Board and government partners.
